Helicopter and seaplane flights to the Hamptons, the wealthy set’s favorite way to travel out East, will be happening as usual this summer — but all passengers will have to pass oxygen-level checks before boarding.
Blade — whose clients include Liev Schreiber, Cynthia Rowley and Christy Turlington — is anticipating more New Yorkers with second homes out East will live full-time in the Hamptons and commute back to the city via chopper or seaplane for work.
The company, which also runs flights to Nantucket, is announcing all pilots, passengers and staff will wear masks and undergo temperature and oxygen-level checks with a pulse oximeter before boarding. Nobody with less than 95 percent oxygen saturation will be allowed to fly. While healthy people have a saturation rate of 95 to 100 percent, doctors have reported seeing COVID-19 patients with levels as low as 50 percent.
The extra health measures ahead of wheels up will likely be welcomed, but there is one downer for the Blade crowd: They will no longer be allowed to sip rosé wine while in flight. An insider told us, “Drinks will not be allowed onboard this summer as passengers may not remove their masks during the trip.”
