Anderson Cooper says that his ex Benjamin Maisani will be a co-parent his newborn son, even though they are no longer a couple.

Appearing Monday on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Cooper revealed that Maisani was in the delivery room with him last week when baby Wyatt Morgan was born, in addition to the surrogate who carried Wyatt and her husband. The CNN anchor, 52, futher said that Maisani, 47, is “going to be a co-parent to Wyatt.”

“He’s my family and I want him to be Wyatt’s family as well,” Cooper said of Maisani.

In March 2018, Cooper confirmed that he and Maisani, a nightclub owner, had parted ways, stating at the time they “are still family to each other, and love each other very much.”

Prior to Wyatt’s birth, Cooper was able to share his baby plans with his mother Gloria Vanderbilt, who died last June at the age of 95.

“I was able to tell her shortly before she died that I was going to have a baby,” Cooper said on Monday’s episode of “Live! with Kelly and Ryan.” “I hadn’t actually — Wyatt hadn’t been created at that point. Wyatt wasn’t actually a being at that point. But he was an idea in my head and I was in the process of it.”

Wyatt is named for Cooper’s late father, while the middle name Morgan comes from Vanderbilt’s side.
