Hoda Kotb officiated an Arizona couple’s wedding via Zoom after their in-person festivities were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
And all they had to do to nab the celebrity officiant was ask: Kotb, who is an ordained minister, agreed to do the honors after the groom, John, and his friends reached out to her.
As seen in a segment on the “Today” show Wednesday, the bride, Melanie, was completely surprised when Kotb popped onto the screen during a Zoom session with the couple’s family, friends and pastor.
“Hi Hoda!” she said, looking shocked as the “Today” co-anchor greeted her.
The couple exchanged their vows and Kotb pronounced them husband and wife.
Kotb, 55, then went the extra mile by having one of John and Melanie’s favorite musical artists, Russell Dickerson, join the Zoom session to perform their wedding song so they could share their first dance together as a married couple.
“They are an amazing couple,” Kotb said. “Congrats to them.”
