The body of a man believed to be famed photographer Peter Beard has been found on Long Island, authorities said Sunday.

A Montauk hunter stumbled on clothing “consistent with” what Beard was wearing when he disappeared, and human remains fitting the missing elderly photographer’s description were soon found, according to the East Hampton Police Department.

The 82-year-old African wildlife shutterbug — a onetime fixture at Studio 54 and pal of Andy Warhol — suffered from dementia and had been missing from his Montauk home since March 31.

Cops said in a statement Sunday, “Detectives were called to the area of Old Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY, after a hunter familiar to the area located an article of clothing consistent with clothing descriptions of missing vulnerable elderly male, Peter Hill Beard.

“A search of the area was conducted and the remains of an elderly male consistent with the physical and clothing description of Mr. Beard was located in a densely wooded area.”
