Dr. Oz said he “misspoke” when he advocated for reopening schools during the coronavirus pandemic, saying that it would result in “only 2 to 3 percent” more deaths.

The celebrity health expert sparked outrage when he made the comments on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Thursday, calling reopening schools “a very appetizing opportunity” to help the US get its “mojo back” as it battles the contagion.

Later Thursday, he posted a video apology to Twitter.

“I’ve realized my comments on risks around opening schools have confused and upset people, which was never my intention,” Oz said. “I misspoke.”

He then attempted to clarify his comments on the program.

“As a heart surgeon, I spent my career fighting to save lives in the operating room by minimizing risks,” the doctor said. “At the same time, I’m being asked constantly, how will we be able to get people back to their normal lives? To do that, one of the important steps will be figuring out, how do we get our children safely back to school?”

“We know for many kids, school is a place of security, nutrition and learning that is missing right now,” he added. “These are issues that we are all wrestling with. And I will continue looking for solutions to beat this virus.”

Meanwhile, Twitter users blasted Oz with the hashtag, #DrOzisadisgrace.

“Can you imagine returning back to school to have your principal say listen up kids only 2-3% of you are going to die [so] don’t worry,” one wrote.

“Excuse me but I don’t consider 2-3% more people dying a good trade-off just so we can reopen the country,” another posted. “How can kids learn in school when they’re dead or on a ventilator? Please cut the crap and use your platform to properly educate people on this issue.”
