Alec Baldwin always dreamed of a big brood like the Irish Catholic family — four boys, two girls — in which he grew up on Long Island. Over the years, he confided to friends that he was desperate to have more kids after the birth of his daughter Ireland with ex-wife Kim Basinger.

Now, at the grandfatherly age of 62, he’s certainly getting his wish. This week, the actor and his second wife, Hilaria, 36, announced they are expecting baby No. 5. They already have daughter Carmen, 6, and sons Rafael, 4, Leonardo, 3, and Romeo, 1.

“Alec always wanted more kids, I remember him talking about it when Ireland was young — he pined for more kids,” a friend of the actor told The Post. “This has always been his dream, but I don’t know if he ever thought it would happen when he was in his 60s.”

A source who knows the family said they have “multiple” nannies. They’re now on coronavirus lockdown at their Amagansett, Long Island, home, where Hilaria is homeschooling the kids and posting Instagram videos of the troop exploring the beach and garden.

Alec, his wife told ABC morning host Sara Haines this week, has been cooking. “He’s a two-trick pony — he either makes an omelet or a stir-fry . . . It’s all very healthy.”

Alec told Howard Stern that he and his wife don’t discuss the coronavirus around their children in an effort to avoid “contaminating them with fear.”

Sound up…I’ll let the baby do the talking because I don’t have the words to express how this sound makes us feel 🤍. Just got the great news that all is well and all is healthy with this little munchkin. I wanted to share this with you🤍 Here we go again 💫

The couple met by chance in 2011 when he joined his pal, artist Brendan O’Connell, for a drink at NYC’s Pure Food and Wine. “As I turned to my left, I saw a woman who would change my life,” he wrote on Instagram.

A year later, he married the yoga instructor in a June ceremony at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Manhattan in a lavish ceremony attended by Ireland, now 24, along with Jimmy Fallon, “Saturday Night Live” honcho Lorne Michaels, Alec’s “30 Rock” co-star Tina Fey, Mariska Hargitay and Woody Allen, as well as Alec’s brothers Billy and Stephen. (Over the years, Alec — a passionate liberal — and Stephen, a staunch Republican and the father of Hailey Bieber, have fallen in and out with each other.)

And then the babies started coming, and Hilaria began sharing — critics have said oversharing — their lives on social media. She’s been remarkably open about suffering two miscarriages in 2019, including losing a girl while four months pregnant.

This time around, the couple revealed they’re expecting another “Baldwinito” when Hilaria posted to Instagram a video of her listening to the baby’s heartbeat, writing: “Sound up . . . I’ll let the baby do the talking because I don’t have the words to express how this sound makes us feel.”

Alec reposted the message, and friends quickly started making jokes. Robert Kennedy Jr. wrote: “Hilaria. I’m sending you Taser [to keep Alec away]. This has to stop!”

Hilaria told Haines the timing was especially meaningful.

“The baby that I lost was due now, so I also have that in perspective, and I think about the women who are having babies right now and how that’s really hard,” she said. “I’m keeping all of that in perspective and just trying to be grateful for what is.”

And Alec is, too.

“To be honest, Hilaria rules the roost,” the Baldwin friend said. “She’s in charge, and Alec wants to do anything to make her happy.”
