Sarah Ferguson has slammed social media, calling it a “sewer,” in an interview with Australian Women’s Weekly.

The Duchess of York, who was married to Prince Andrew from 1986 to 1996, expounded her views of social media with unfiltered candor. “Women are pitted against other women,” the 60-year-old former royal proclaimed. “Trolling online is vicious and hurtful. We have to stand against it.”

The children’s book author called for those using social media to “be kinder” and “treat each other a little more gently.”

Ferguson — who shares daughters Eugenie, 30, and Beatrice, 31, with her ex, Prince Andrew — speaks from her own personal experience on the subject. Ferguson’s daughters have often been the subject of vicious online commentary, where they have been mocked for their appearances and fashion sense.

Speaking of family, Ferguson was recently photographed alongside her daughter, Princess Eugenie — the pair is self-isolating together — receiving a huge shipment of pastries which they intend to send to the staff at London hospitals.
