Rob Lowe‘s son is celebrating two years of sobriety.

John Lowe, 25, marked the occasion on Instagram with a split photo of him chugging a bottle of wine next to his AA statistics and wrote, “Then -> Now.”

“I haven’t been vocal about my sobriety on here just because I felt it was something I wanted to keep personal, but I had a change of heart today,” John explained in a lengthy caption. “Two years in and I am more grateful than ever to have a community of support and friends who continue to build me up and hold me accountable.”

“Making the decision to change your life is difficult at any age, but as a young person I hope that I can be a small example that it is possible and that things really do get SO MUCH BETTER.”

John called this era of coronavirus quarantine an “incredibly strange and tense time” and added his “heart goes out to everyone going through something.” He also suggested that those struggling with addiction during this trying time turn to anyone, including AA meetings on Zoom, a video communications application.

“Life doesn’t have to be short and we don’t have to blow it!” he added, referring the caption on his Snapchat photo of him chugging the wine.

His famous father, 56, lauded his son’s efforts in the comments, writing, “I have never been more proud. Your hard work is an inspiration. Keep Coming Back.”

The “Parks and Recreation” star marked 30 years of sobriety this year and credited Steven Tyler for helping him get there.

“I was probably sober two or three weeks, maybe, and I got a phone call from Steven Tyler, who I did not know,” the elder Lowe said. “He called me and said, ‘I heard you’re in recovery and I just wanted to say, ‘Hey, you’re going to do great.’”
