Readers: I’m getting pretty tired of all this virus talk. So I’m going to change the topic today to something that will make two dozen people happy — free hearing aids.

As I mentioned a few weeks back, Nano Hearing Aids — nanohearingaids.com — was giving away 24 pairs of hearing aids through this column. The company said its hearing aids were great and affordable. I said prove it.

So Nano decided to give away freebies of the $1,000 aids.

The company is in the process of contacting the people it picked for this giveaway based on their need and their inability to pay for hearing aids on their own. About 1,000 people submitted requests through e-mails to Nano.

Here are the first four lucky winners:

WINNER 1

Nano: I read in the “Dear John — The Answer Man” column in The New York Post today that Nano Hearing Aids will be giving away complimentary hearing aids to a very select number of people who need hearing aids but cannot afford them.

Therefore, I respectfully and sincerely request that I be one of the very fortunate selected people who receives hearing aids from you.

I am 78 years old, a veteran, a widower and a volunteer at the Princeton Medical Center here in New Jersey. I am assigned to the Information Desk, and my tasks include greeting visitors to the hospital who are here to see patients, directing calls to patients, escorting people who are here for medical tests to the appropriate locations in the hospital, and aiding people in the admitting process who are being enrolled as in-patients.

It is essential that I have the ability to clearly and accurately hear what is said to me, since the people I assist are experiencing stress and discomfort because of their need to be in the hospital, and I desire and I am committed to providing the very best and most complete assistance and service possible.

Nano: We just celebrated my father’s 90th birthday on Feb. 20. He is in quite good shape — sharp as a razor, as they say. His only ailment, one that has troubled him for many decades, is his poor hearing.

None of the (too-many-to-recall) hearing aids he has used over the years have ever really worked for him.

He and my mom worked hard until retirement, but are far from well off. The cost of the hearing aids weigh on them, and so I believe he delays getting new ones.

My dad’s nickname is “The Fox,” so called because he has always been quite a charming and interesting character. It is so sad to witness him having to use his charm to hide the fact he is not hearing what people are saying to him.

Nano: I saw on the internet that your company was giving away two dozen pair of hearing aids to readers of “Dear John.”

How incredible!

I can only hope you might pick my husband to be one of those very fortunate people. His hearing has been poor for many years, but recently has gotten so much worse.

Up until 2017, his health was quite good, but the day after Christmas, he went in for a routine blood test prior to an angiogram and ended up in the emergency department.

On that one day, we found out he was in kidney failure, had a serious lung disease, and was going to need open-heart surgery. He is two years post-op from the heart surgery and doing well with that. He goes to dialysis three days a week for 4 ¹/₂ hours each day, and is extremely short of breath.

But he perseveres in spite of all the setbacks. I can only imagine what being able to hear again would be like for him.

And to be able to have a real conversation with him again is my dream. I don’t know how you choose who receives your free hearing aids but I am hoping and praying you choose my Bob.

Nano: Please allow me to apply for a chance to win free hearing aids for my dad! He has done everything he could for me all my life, and I would like to give him something in return — the chance to hear clearly again!

Not only has he suffered from hearing loss for a third of his adult life, he has lost everyone in his immediate family except me.

His youngest brother died at 30 years old, and two days later, his father died. After that, eventually, life got back to normal.

Then my mother died (26 years ago). They had been married 35 years. A year later, his only sister died from a brain tumor. Three years after that, his two older brothers died.

He moved his mother in with him and took care of her until she died at 98 years old. He’s lived alone ever since. I know that his hearing loss has made him feel even more isolated, too.

Now, it’s just him, and I’m all the family he has left and I can’t afford new hearing aids for him, but would love to give him the world because of all he has sacrificed to help me over my life!

He will be 80 years old in August, and he still gets out one day a week to go see the few remaining retired post office buddies he has at Hardee’s, but I know he struggles to hear the conversation.

My dad is a great man, I love him with all my heart and if he could hear better, what a difference it would make in his life! He deserves it!
