Like many of us, Reese Witherspoon is currently under self-quarantine with her family, taking to Miley Cyrus’ “Bright Minded” Instagram Live show to dish on how she, husband Jim Toth, 20-year-old daughter Ava, and sons Deacon and Tennessee have managed to co-exist peacefully 24 hours a day.
“I definitely have good days and bad days,” Witherspoon, 44, confessed to Cyrus, 27, adding that she knows daughter Ava — currently home from college — is struggling to acclimate to family life again after living independently while attending Stanford University.
“She was living her own life. Now she can’t see her friends,” the “Little Fires Everywhere” star explained. “I think a lot about people who are coming home from college — that’s a time where you are trying to individuate. You have to actually kind of move away from your parents’ ideas, you have to move away from their structure and their routine, and create your own and now you have to go backwards. That must be so frustrating to lose that independence.”
The Hello Sunshine founder went on to say she believes giving housemates personal space is the key to co-existing under one roof.
“I think it’s really important to designate space,” she stated. “My husband and I are both working from home and all three kids are doing school online. So everybody has a room that has a little area and there’s a privacy sign there, so when the privacy sign is on and your headphones are on, you can’t interrupt. You have to have rules. We have guidelines on the wall for our family, just so we respect each other’s space.”

Witherspoon recently celebrated her March 22 birthday with family, sharing a photo of the tight-knit clan on Instagram alongside the caption, “One of the best birthdays ever!🎈 So many thoughtful, beautiful, heartfelt messages from so many of you!
