Idris Elba is slamming the notion that celebrities like Tom Hanks, Kevin Durant and Andy Cohen are being paid to claim they have contracted the coronavirus, a conspiracy brought further into the public eye following a recent Instagram post by Cardi B.

Elba, 47, debunked the theory during an Instagram Live session with his wife, Sabrina Dhowre. The “Hobbes and Shaw” actor tested positive for coronavirus on March 16 while Dhowre tested positive six days later.

“This idea that someone like myself is going to be paid to say I have coronavirus, that’s like, absolute bulls–t,”  Elba remarked. The “Luther” actor made no reference to Cardi B’s post during his broadcast.

“It’s stupid. It’s the quickest way to … get people sick,” Elba noted. “There’s no benefit to me and Sabrina sitting here saying we got it, and we ain’t got it.”

Cardi — who made no reference to Elba or any other celebrity directly — stated in an Instagram Live post she believed celebs could possibly be getting paid to tell the public they have coronavirus.

“Let’s say if I have the coronavirus right now. How am I supposed to know I got it because sometimes I be like, ‘If y’all have a cough, you have it,’” she said. “But then I be seeing these basketball players say like, ‘Yeah, I have the coronavirus, but I don’t got no symptoms.’ So how the f–k am I supposed to know when I’m supposed to get tested for it?”

She went on to note, “I’m starting to feel like ya’ll n–as is paying n–as to say that they got it, and if you are paying n–as to say that they got it, PAY ME, TOO!”
