In hopes of teaching how easily a contagious virus can spread, Stephen King posted the audio of a chapter from his post-apocalyptic 1978 book “The Stand.”

“Chapter 8 of THE STAND. This is how it works. Heed. (But remember COVID-19 is not as lethal as the superflu.),” the 72-year-old author wrote on Twitter on Sunday alongside a YouTube video of the audio.

The book is about a strain of influenza that kills almost the entire world population and how the survivors rebuild a new civilization. The chapter posted by the author highlights how easy transmission between people can be without even realizing it’s happening.

Perhaps it’s time to add this to the quarantine reading list, or you can watch the 1994 miniseries adaptation starring Molly Ringwald and Gary Sinise.
