Brandon Maxwell is joining the fashion industry’s fight against the coronavirus.
The 35-year-old New York designer and longtime Lady Gaga collaborator shared on Friday that he and his team have begun making masks, gowns and other desperately needed supplies for hospitals and healthcare workers.
“In response to this global crisis, we are now focusing our creative efforts on manufacturing PPE (personal protective equipment), starting with gowns,” Maxwell wrote on both Twitter and Instagram.
“We have spent the last week researching the appropriate medical textiles to create these gowns and are proud to provide these much needed items to the doctors and nurses on the front lines of this crisis.”
Added the designer, “As more information becomes available on how to manufacture medical grade masks and gloves, we will transition in to doing so. Any information you can share for donation locations or organizations would be greatly appreciated.”
Fellow fashion star Christian Siriano is also pivoting his entire sewing team to help out with the PPE shortage.
“If @NYGovCuomo says we need masks my team will help make some. I have a full sewing team still on staff working from home that can help,” he tweeted on Friday; Governor Andrew Cuomo then confirmed he was “in contact” with the designer.
