Angry gym rats blasted Planet Fitness on Thursday after they learned the chain had charged their accounts for the month of March — despite the fact they’ve been stuck at home because of the coronavirus.

“Planet Fitness making sure they snatch my membership fee from my checking account even though gyms are closing nationwide,” Twitter user Colby King griped.

The New Hampshire-based fitness franchisor appeared to have billed users across the US despite mandatory closings in a number of US states, including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut earlier this week. Along with gyms, movie theaters and casinos were ordered closed as of 8 p.m. Monday.

“March monthly dues were billed as we were, unfortunately, unable to stop the pre-scheduled draft on short notice,” Planet Fitness tweeted back to users. “Please know that when we reopen we will provide a credit for closed days previously paid for, and we will not be charging future monthly dues until we reopen.”

That won’t likely sit well with cash-strapped members who are facing layoffs and no clear signs of rent relief as the economy reckons with the deadly virus.

“can @PlanetFitness stop charging gym fees to those of us that can’t go???? cause that $20 will come i realllllll handy rn” tweeted user @lilashllley.

At least 12 states have ordered gyms be closed in order to stop the spread of the pandemic. Planet Fitness CEO Chris Rondeau said in a statement on Tuesday that the chain plans to shutter all locations by March 31.

Planet Fitness did not respond to requests for comment.
