Prince William has become the first member of the royal family to address the coronavirus pandemic — calling it the crisis he “dreaded” would never come.
The 37-year-old Duke of Cambridge made his remarks in a somber online video announcing that the UK’s National Emergencies Trust was officially stepping in to help those in need.
“I said at its launch last year that I dreaded the day when it would be needed. Sadly, with the outbreak of COVID-19, that day has come faster than any of us would have hoped,” William conceded.
“But now, more than ever, I am grateful that The National Emergencies Trust exists,” he insisted, saying it would “ensure that all our efforts to overcome this challenge are channeled in the best possible way.”
