Max, 47, and Mel, 93, shared a video on Twitter Monday that showed they are keeping their distance from each other amid the coronavirus pandemic to prevent from spreading the infectious illness.
“If I get the coronavirus, I’ll probably be okay,” Max said in the 50-second PSA. “But if I give it to him, he could give it to Carl Reiner, who could give it to Dick Van Dyke, and before I know it, I’ve wiped out a whole generation of comedic legends.”
While the “World War Z” author spoke, Mel stood behind a plexiglass door on the other side of the house.
“When it comes to coronavirus, I have to think about who I can infect, and so should you,” Max continued. “So, practice social distancing, avoid crowds, wash your hands, keep six feet away from people, and if you’ve got the option to stay home, just stay home.”
Mel then told his son with a smile, “Go home.”
Max’s recommendations line up with the Center for Disease Control’s guidelines for how to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The CDC also suggests that people should wear face masks if they’re sick, clean and disinfect surfaces frequently, and to cover coughs and sneezes.
As of Monday afternoon, there have been more than 135,000 cases of coronavirus worldwide, including over 5,000 deaths. According to the CDC, older adults and people who have underlying medical conditions are at a higher risk for developing complications from the COVID-19 illness.
