TV dog Beatrice, recognized for playing Stella, the beloved French bulldog on “Modern Family,” died recently after the final season wrapped, according to The Blast.
She died about a week ago, sources told the website.
Stella was introduced in the second season of the show and was initially played by another French bulldog named Brigitte. Beatrice took over the role as the dog of character Jay Pritchett — played by Ed O’Neill — in the show’s fourth season.
O’Neill was known for being extremely close with his TV pet.
“When it comes to Ed O’Neill, [Beatrice] and him have quite a bond, I mean we call him Uncle Ed,” animal agency Good Dog Animals owner Steve Solomon told The Hollywood Reporter in 2014. “As soon as she walks on set, he basically stops what he’s doing and he comes over, grabs her, gives her a hug and she just simply gives it back to him and he’ll let her kiss her all over. They love each other.”
The show’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson took to social media to say his goodbyes to the pooch, writing, “Rest in peace sweet Beatrice. We love you so much.”
Beatrice’s acting credits include other shows such as “Workaholics” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, films like “Mostly Ghostly 2,” and ads for Dunkin’ Donuts and Samsung.
She is known for having “mastered a wide range of behaviors and is always looking to put her skills to the test,” according to an online bio, and “even knows how to skateboard.”
