The DJ shared on Instagram on Monday that he is staying away from his two young sons amid the coronavirus pandemic as a preventative measure, since he has “been in contact with hundreds of people in the past four weeks” while on tour.
The 41-year-old recently traveled to Brazil, Mexico, India and many cities throughout the US, according to his Instagram.
Diplo posted a video of himself greeting his kids from behind a plexiglass window and said Lockett, 9, and Lazer, 5, are “too young to understand the complexities of what’s happening.”
“I’m staying away from the house until I am cleared of the virus,” he continued. “This hurts because I miss them so much they are what makes me wake up every day and live and breath, they are my ultimate joy, but this is my sacrifice to make sure everyone around me is safe.”
The “Close to Me” DJ said he “wanted to build Legos and watch movies,” but instead is going to “stay by the window and listen to them play drums and sing for me.”
He also encouraged others to be considerate of their own loved ones during the pandemic, saying, “Think about others in every decision you make in the coming weeks. This isn’t A drill.. We already have enough news from Italy Iran Korea and China about the best ways to slow this.. We need to be smart.”
Diplo clarified that he does not know whether he is positive for coronavirus.
“Not that I know of,” he responded on his Instagram Stories. “But you need to assume everyone who isn’t in a quarantine has this disease and doesn’t know.”
