Forest Whitaker says the new documentary he produced on notorious former Knicks player Stephon Marbury, “A Kid From Coney Island,” is about redemption.

At a BAM premiere, Whitaker told us: “I do relate to Stephon’s story . . . he did greatness, he worked hard. He rose again as a phoenix, really, and he came back in a beautiful way, and he lets people believe and know that they can come back.”

LA native Whitaker grew up as a Lakers fan. NBA star Kevin Durant exec produced the project.
