Annie Leibovitz has been criticized for how she lit her photos of Ketanji Brown Jackson

Online, people have different opinions about Annie Leibovitz's portraits of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Some people say that the famous photographer doesn't know how to take pictures of black women.

Leibovitz, who is 72 years old, posted on Tuesday two photos she took of the newest member of the high court's liberal bloc posing at the Lincoln Memorial for a Vogue Magazine photo shoot.

Many people liked the pictures of the first black woman on the Supreme Court, but some people said loudly that Leibovitz didn't use the right lighting.

“You can hardly see her. Please learn to light darker complexions properly,” one user wrote.

“I’m begging you to light black women better her skin tone is not grey,” said another.

Others said that it wasn't the first time the former Rolling Stone reporter had messed up when drawing people of color.

One "infuriated" critic wrote that it seemed like Leibovitz used the "same lighting set-up she used on Simone Biles" in 2020, referring to a photoshoot that some critics called "degrading."

Some people on Twitter didn't like how a picture was put together that showed Jackson standing below a picture of Lincoln at sunset.

"I know what you were trying to say, but I think this says, 'Lincoln set the slaves free, and look what they did!' Someone wrote, "A little too white savior-like, especially with that lighting."

Others said that Vouge should have hired a black photographer for the shoot and asked the magazine why it didn't do a photo shoot with conservative Justice Amy Coney Barret in 2020.

Most of the more than 2,200 people who replied to the tweet by Friday were full of praise for both the artist and the person who sent it.

“Ms. Leibovitz this may be one of the most historic of portraits of your career. Amazing work. You’ve captured Judge Jackson’s strength, intelligence and beauty. Just wow,” one person wrote.
