Anatoly Chubais, a former adviser to Vladimir Putin, fell ill with a rare neurological condition
According to a source, a former senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin who left the country following the invasion of Ukraine has become gravely ill and is currently receiving intensive treatment.
According to a friend of Anatoly Chubais and Russian television celebrity Ksenia Sobchak, Chubais was being treated for a neurological illness in a hospital in Europe.
Chubais' wife informed Sobchak over Telegram that her husband had Guillain-Barre syndrome.
The immune system of a person damages the body's nerves, which can cause muscle weakness and even paralysis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The hands and legs of Chubais, 67, had started to go numb. According to the New York Times, experts wearing "chemical protection suits" investigated the room where he suddenly became ill.
Chubais did not provide a reason for his resignation from his position in March, but it is widely believed that it was because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Following the commencement of the war, a lot of people resigned, including him in a prominent manner.
He has held numerous high-level positions since the early 1990s and most recently served as member of Putin's delegation to international organizations on sustainable development.
His sickness is suspicious given the odd and unexpected illnesses of other Kremlin foes in the past, most notably Alexei Navalny, who was reportedly poisoned in 2020.
