Police issue a parental advisory after discovering rainbow-colored fentanyl
On Saturday, California police issued a warning about drug dealers who were mixing fentanyl with rainbow and other candies.
A single usage of the candy-colored fentanyl, according to the Monterey Police Department, can be fatal for adults and even children. Fentanyl doses as low as two milligrams are thought to be potentially fatal.
“Sadly we are now seeing fentanyl in rainbow/candy coloring. We encourage parents to speak with their children about the dangers of this deadly drug. Just one use can be fatal,” the police department wrote.
An increasing number of drug overdose deaths nationwide are being blamed on fentanyl. Although much less expensive to create than heroin, the synthetic opioid is many times stronger.
Drug dealers frequently combine the drug with actual heroin to increase their product volume, frequently without warning. Because they believe they are taking a medicine that is significantly less potent than it actually is, the end user is consequently much more prone to overdose.
According to the CDC, fentanyl was a factor in 70% of drug overdoses in 2020.
For the first time in 2021, the number of drug overdose deaths in the U.S. exceeded 100,000, coming up at 107,622. The CDC anticipated there will be 91,799 fatalities in 2020, which showed a significant increase.
