Trump said of Musk's decision to back out of the Twitter deal: 'I Called It Early'

Even though there was a lot of hype, former President Donald Trump told that he knew Elon Musk would not actually buy Twitter.

“I knew that Twitter had a lot of the fake accounts because I read, like everyone else does,” Trump told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview Friday night. “I knew they had a lot of the fake accounts like the bots and everything else that they had. I thought that the price was exorbitant; the price he was paying for it was exorbitant.”

Trump also said that he "called it early" when he said that Musk would not buy Twitter. Musk moved to cancel his bid to buy Twitter, citing worries about the number of fake bot accounts on the platform, through a formal filing just hours before his interview with Trump. But Twitter's chairman hit back, saying that the company plans to try to enforce Musk's promise to buy the company. This is something that Trump said he thinks will lead to "a lot of litigation."

“I called it early and said, ‘That deal is never going to happen,’” Trump said. “We’re going to have to see what happens because they’re going to be saying, ‘You owe us $44 billion’ because I hear they have a very tight contract. It’s supposed to be ‘iron-clad,’ but I don’t know how you define ‘iron-clad.’ But it’s an ‘iron-clad’ contract, and he put up a billion-dollar deposit, so I see that ending up in a lot of litigation.”

All of this is good news for Trump's social media platform, Truth Social, he said. He said that Trump's platform has been "very successful" so far and is about to have more than five million users. He said that this reporter recently joined it.

“Personally, I have something called Truth that you’re on,” Trump said. “It’s very successful. We have better interactions. It’s doing phenomenal, and it’ll be over five million people very soon, and we’ll be at ten million people in the not-too-distant future.”

Trump has been very active on his Truth Social platform, where he often posts comments about the news of the day or political issues like endorsements and his thoughts on races around the country. He started it after he was banned from Twitter and Facebook after the events of January 6, 2021, in his last days as president. Big Tech companies censoring a sitting U.S. president has sparked more debate about how much power these companies have over free speech in the U.S., and alternatives like Trump's have rushed to take advantage of the situation.

After an event about law and order with Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo and former Attorney General Adam Laxalt, the Republican nominees for governor and U.S. Senate, Trump did an interview backstage. Senate here in Nevada, at the Las Vegas Strip's Treasure Island Hotel and Casino. Both candidates recently won their party's nomination in the primary, thanks to Trump's support. They hope to beat Democratic incumbents Gov. Steve Sisolak and Sen. Cathy Cortez Masto (D-NV) in November.
