The fashion designer, 57, released a new fragrance on Thursday that he hopes inspires fans to be their best selves.

Called Perfect Marc Jacobs ($96), the scent — which features top notes of rhubarb and daffodil as well as a heart of almond milk and base notes of cedarwood and cashmeran — is inspired by a very personal message Jacobs had tattooed on his wrist after a 2007 stint in rehab.

“I tattooed ‘perfect’ on my wrist to remind me that, when I’m looking at myself and wishing I could be stronger in this way or better at that thing, I can just say no, I’m exactly how I need to be right now,” the style icon said in a press release.

“My new fragrance, Perfect, was inspired by my belief that we are all perfect as we are, which is expressed in the campaign through each of our amazing cast members.”

The idea was more important to Jacobs than the literal scent. “I can’t really dissect it and say, ‘The daffodil represents perfect,’” he told Elle.

Jacobs’ message is also reflected in the fragrance’s campaign, for which he cast 15 aspiring and established models — including Kate Moss’ daughter Lila as well as celebrity manicurist Mei Kawajiri — curated from social media.
