When it comes to parenting during a pandemic, Anderson Cooper‘s getting by with a little help from his friends.

During an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Wednesday, the 52-year-old CNN anchor — who welcomed his son Wyatt Morgan Cooper via surrogate last week — revealed that his BFF Andy Cohen has been invaluably helpful in coaching him through early fatherhood.

“He obviously knew about it well in advance, and he’s been encouraging me all along,” Cooper said, before joking, “And I figured, you know, if he can do it, that sort of gave me the final push.”

And thanks to Cohen’s one-year-old Benjamin, little Wyatt now has a complete wardrobe. “He’s actually really helped me, because my son is entirely wearing hand-me-downs from Andy Cohen’s son,” Cooper said.

“I was planning on going shopping, which I hate to do,” he continued, adding that the pandemic derailed that strategy. “And then online shopping … how do you do that, for baby clothes? Do you go to Buy Buy Baby or Amazon? I don’t know! It just seemed weird. So he just gave me all the clothes.”

The TV journalist said he’s hoping to raise Wyatt to appreciate the value of a dollar. “I’m inherently cheap. I like a good value,” Cooper said, before joking, “I wanted my son to be a Depression-era child who grows up wearing hand-me-down clothes.”

“Well, god, I hope he doesn’t get an opportunity to!” Colbert replied. “That’s no longer just a metaphor.”
