When he’s not producing thousands of face masks for the medical workers fighting coronavirus on the front lines, the 34-year-old designer is staying creative by sketching and painting gorgeous gowns.
During a virtual chat on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Siriano surprised the singer, who turned 38 on Friday, with a trio of sketches of gowns he’s designed for her in the past.
“These are my gift to you — I’m sorry they’re not framed,” the designer told Clarkson. “Happy birthday!”
The sketches feature the Siriano looks Clarkson wore to the 2018 Golden Globes and Grammys — an off-the-shoulder black A-line gown with a single contrast sleeve and a fringed dress with opulent gold lace detailing, respectively — as well as the hot pink puff-sleeved number she wore to the 2019 “UglyDolls” premiere.
“I love those! Thank you so much, that’s so kind,” the “Since U Been Gone” singer gushed.

When it comes to producing PPE, however, Siriano admitted it’s quite different from designing dresses. “It’s wild,” he said. “My sewers are couture sewers, and now they’re making masks. It’s quite monotonous work, and at the beginning we were only making white, and I was like, ‘We need to have some color.”
Now, the designer and his team are producing masks in uplifting shades like lime, hot pink and teal.

“I love that you added the color,” Clarkson told him. “I know that seems like a silly thing, but we could use color right now.”
“Even the women in my office who are working every day to still have a job and feed their families, they feel different when they’re making a fuchsia mask all day instead of just a plain gray one,” Siriano shared. “You can tell.”
