John Malone’s Liberty Media, which owns SiriusXM, the Atlanta Braves and the Formula One racing circuit, said Chief Executive Greg Maffei scored $44 million in compensation in 2019.

Maffei’s pay jumped a whopping 118 percent last year compared with his 2018 pay of $20.2 million, according to an SEC filing Tuesday.

The robust jump in compensation was due to Maffei’s new employment contract, which was boosted by a one-time $2.2 million bonus, as well as a 164.6 percent jump in stock and options awards to $31.4 million. The CEO’s salary edged up 5 percent to $1.7 million.

In December, Maffei agreed to continue as president and CEO through Dec. 31, 2024, according to the filing.

Elsewhere, Malone, who serves as chairman, saw his total compensation rise 27.2 percent to $1.4 million up from $1.1 million in 2018. The bump in Malone’s pay was primarily due to a 34.7 percent bump in other compensation to $1.2 million.
