Artist Jesus Martinez and Comedian's Son Zak Honor Robin Williams With NFT Collaboration

A new NFT initiative intends to memorialize the late comedian and actor Robin Williams' legacy, with earnings going toward mental health programs for low-income young people.

Artist Jesus Martinez and Robin's son, Zak Williams, collaborated on the project. Martinez said in a statement that the artwork was created to demonstrate the "various races, colors, language, and ways of expression." According to Martinez, he and Zak met via a common acquaintance and have since formed a "wonderful connection" that will soon lead to a wider joint endeavor centered on charity and mental health.

Martinez's SuperRare profile now includes the NFT. According to the artist, the purpose here is to magnify the "universal themes" at the heart of Williams' work, with earnings benefiting low-income adolescent mental health programs as part of a joint effort with Bring Change to Mind (BC2M). The group's work focuses on eradicating the stigma and prejudice that often accompanies talks about mental health, especially via media campaigns and youth-oriented initiatives.

“All everyone feels is love, light, and happiness when we remember the legacy of Robin Williams,” Martinez said of his and Zak’s collaboration. “We must remember to take care of our mental health and cherish those human-to-human relationships.”

Williams passed away in 2014, at the age of 63. It was eventually found that the beloved comic died as a result of Lewy body disease. Zak marked what would have been his father's 70th birthday in July with a touching Instagram message. “I would want you to know that your incredible spirit lives within us,” Zak said. “Our family will be celebrating you and your memory today.”
