Lena Dunham’s most body-positive photos on Instagram

Lena Dunham has become one of the most vocal advocates of body positivity. From her role on "Girls" to her very own Instagram page, Dunham has put herself on display all while challenging naysayers and harsh critics. So when she announced the launch of a new plus-size clothing line, the connection was clear. Take a look at the body-positive photos that drew her to her new venture.

Before launching her own line, Dunham championed other plus-size brands. "Okay people she got dressed again to not leave the house - and I can tell you that @lisasaysgah has the plus size fits on lock," she wrote on Instagram.

At the start of 2021, she posed in lingerie next to a pink Christmas tree, proving she even does holidays her own way. "There comes a time we must accept that our life is not going to look the way our mothers, grandmothers, friends or ex-lovers thought it would or should. There is liberation in that. Try it on for size," she wrote.

While getting some sun, the Emmy nominee mused on a new body shape. "Oh hey, just self-isolating with my pod, aka my pot belly and my sunglasses. You know I've been thinking a lot about my pot belly in quarantine- especially as I notice an unusual amount of articles with titles like 'how I lost the weight' and 'diet is everything.' Are there more of them or do I just have more time to notice?" she penned.

As a tip for a midday pick-me-up, Dunham suggested, "Say f*** it, put on a your string bikini, and imagine that you're a golddigger who created your own happy ending and is now giving all the cash you scored to the resistance behind your conserative husband's back."

Captioning a black-and-white photo of herself in a bathing suit, the activist wrote that she put on the style not for a guy or a photoshoot but "for the feeling of glee you get from dressing your one and only corporeal form."

Alongside a bathtub snap, Dunham reminded fans that "health is wealth but also disability and pain don't have to mean the end of your dreams - just the beginning of a new dream."

In a nude sunbathing snap, Dunham looked back at her naysayers. "Any negativity that comes your way is just an excuse to love yourself even more, right?" she told her followers.

While opening up about her mindset, Dunham admitted, "I've spent a lot of time in this life feeling like too much. Too hungry. Too anxious. Too loud. Too needy. Too sick. Too dramatic. Too honest. Too sexy (jk lol.) I was always sent the message, in insidious ways, that I took up too much room and demanded too much from life and sometimes gave too much to people who didn't want any at all. But something has changed, and it started when I realized: I don't have to be *for* everybody, and that for the right people, my too much is just enough."

While taking a break from standing up in the shower, the director thought about "some amazing dialogue with other women about representation, reclaiming negativity and size inclusive clothing brands."

Through the years, she's maintained a similar message, perhaps most fittingly in this caption that read, "I feel: gratitude for the woman I'm becoming and empathy for the girl that I've been."
