The Fug Girls share their favorite royal style moments ever

Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks, who run the fashion blog Go Fug Yourself and co-authored the hit book “The Royal We,” a fictional homage to Prince William and Kate Middleton, have been covering the royals for years.
With their new book “The Heir Affair” hitting shelves this week, we asked Morgan and Cocks to share their favorite royal fashion moments of all time with Page Six Style.

COCKS: “I thought Meghan’s last appearance in the UK was really well done. She wore really bright colors. She wore dramatic capes and hats. I thought she came back and knocked that one out of the park. As far as farewell tours go, I thought it was incredibly successful.
“There’s even that dreamy picture of her and Harry walking in the rain. Not only did she come back in full form, but then they got an iconic ‘piano picture’ out of it. We call them ‘piano pictures’ because we imagine they’re the ones that celebrities buy and put in frames on the grand pianos that they all probably have in their living room.”

MORGAN: “Kate’s had plenty of memorable fashion moments, but I think the wedding dress is the one that’s not going to be topped. There’s that shot of William and Kate coming out of Westminster Abbey after they’re married and they’re holding hands and I think that picture is so iconic.”

COCKS: “Yeah, that [photo], and the one where she’s just left the vehicle and she’s about to walk into the Abbey and she’s turning, looking over her shoulder and finally you see the whole length of the dress.”

MORGAN: “Obviously Diana was a fashion icon and there are looks that you can sort of think of off the top of your head that you associate with her, but I do think that the number-one thing people associate with her is her wedding gown. It was so memorable.”

MORGAN: “I also think a lot of the times their jewelry becomes iconic. Diana wore a choker all the time that people really remember about her. I do think sometimes, their iconic looks are about jewelry.”

MORGAN: “For Meghan — also jewelry-wise — when she and Harry left to go to their reception and she was wearing that amazing Stella McCartney dress that I thought was beautiful, she had an aquamarine cocktail ring that I think is sort of an iconic piece.”

COCKS: “That actually would be my other pick for Meghan, I think. There’s the farewell appearances, but then also that Stella dress.”

COCKS: “The Queen, it’s said, likes to wear a lot of bright colors so that she’s easy to pick out in a crowd for anyone who traveled to see her.
“Standing there on the Buckingham Palace balcony [for Trooping the Colour in 2016], she absolutely is the first thing your eyes go to — which is saying a lot considering that Charlotte and George were there, too.”

MORGAN: “The purse is for sure iconic. She’s been carrying that purse for 50 years.”

MORGAN: “The men are not really adventurous dressers. I will say, William took some style risks when they were in their recent tour of Pakistan. He wore a green ensemble that was different than his usual. He looked great and I think he got a lot of praise for it that will lead to him branching out from the blue suit all the time.”

MORGAN: “[Prince Charles dresses] incredibly dapper. No one does the pocket square-tie-shirt combo as adeptly as he does within his aristocratic, bespoke genre. He’s very skilled at pattern matching and he’s been in the Vanity Fair Best Dressed hall of fame since, like, the ’80s. He’s extremely well dressed and I think the [other] boys are just kind of not that into it.”

COCKS: “For a long time, every time Harry had to get dressed up, he wore a yellow waistcoat and I think there was a day he wore a baby blue one and everybody was like, ‘What?! Where is the yellow waistcoat? Is the yellow waistcoat out of favor? What happened?’
“Whenever I picture him, it’s like, ‘Oh, and Harry is wearing his yellow waistcoat,’ and William is like, ‘Oh, blue suit.’ I think they aim for inoffensive rather than iconic.”
