Remembering Chadwick Boseman, a true king of the red carpet

The film and fashion worlds are mourning the loss of Chadwick Boseman, who tragically died on August 28 after a four-year battle with colon cancer. He was just 43 years old, and had never spoken publicly about his diagnosis.

A gifted actor who portrayed black icons including Jackie Robinson (in “42”), James Brown (in “Get On Up”) and Thurgood Marshall (in “Marshall”), Boseman also changed big-screen representation forever with his role as T’Challa/Black Panther, Marvel’s first black superhero.

His film accolades aside, the South Carolina native was also beloved for his impeccable sense of style, regularly making best-dressed lists throughout his too-short career.

“With every outfit we created, I wanted the world to see and feel the warmth of your beautiful spirit,” Boseman’s longtime stylist Ashley Weston wrote in a moving Instagram tribute on Sunday. “I’ll always remember that no matter how late we made you for events, you always stopped to hug [me and my team] and say how much you loved and appreciated us before walking out the door. My big brother. My King. I love you.”

Ahead, take a look back at Boseman’s many, many memorable red carpet fashion moments over the years, from his unforgettable Versace look from the 2018 Met Gala to his Louis Vuitton harness at the ESPYs.
