On Tuesday night, the Miami Heat forward appeared to catch the Washington Mystics’ 94-89 win over the Connecticut Sun, in which Mystics forward Aerial Powers poured in 27 points. Taking to Twitter, Iguodala commented on Powers’ performance, without identifying her by name.

“Number 23 from the mystics is nice!!!” the 36-year-old NBA star wrote.

Shortly after the tweet was sent, Iguodala was met with a firestorm of backlash over the message, notably from 26-year-old Powers herself.

“Put some respect on my name or keep this tweet to yourself!!” Powers fired back in a quote-retweet on Wednesday.

“We deal with disrespect on the daily so for someone like you @andre to tweet that off the same device u could have looked me up on is unacceptable. Mind you commentator said my name. Would it have been the same if I was a guy?Look at the pic. I didn’t forget . I SAID WHAT I SAID!” she continued.

The WNBA bubble season opened on Saturday in Bradenton, Fla. The NBA restart begins Thursday night in Orlando.

Powers also shared a screenshot of a 2016 TMZ story, “NBA Star Andre Iguodala: I Don’t Want My Daughter Playing Basketball and Becoming a Lesbian.” Iguodala later clarified the remarks, noting he didn’t want his daughter to endure “the same struggles” lesbian WNBA players have experienced.

As Powers received a flurry of support from teammates and fans, Iguodala tweeted Wednesday, “…no manners.”

A Michigan State University alum, Powers was selected fifth overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2016 WNBA draft. She was traded to the Mystics in July 2018.
