After welcoming son Wyatt via surrogate, the CNN anchor said he wouldn’t be taking any paternity leave because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“This is not some story, this is life and death,” the 52-year-old said on “The Late Show.” “This is as serious as it gets. It’s more important than ever before that things be true and accurate. That’s one of the reasons why I’m not taking time off.”

Cooper added that it’s an “extraordinary” time to be a journalist.

“Thankfully, I can do some work from home and stuff, but I feel like this is an extraordinary time to be in this business as a reporter and to be able to try to help inform people, give people facts,” Cooper explained to host Stephen Colbert. “Right now, facts and science, to give people the truth, is the difference between life and death.”

Cooper, who is co-parenting Wyatt with ex Benjamin Maisani, also shared that the nanny his pal Andy Cohen had for his son, Benjamin, is now working for Cooper — so he’s surrounded by plenty of help.
