        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<aside class="blog-post-deck"></aside><article></article><article></article><p>WarnerMedia&#8217;s pricey new streaming service HBO Max is set to debut on May 27, the company said Tuesday.</p><p>The AT&amp;T-owned media giant&#8217;s video-streaming platform &#8212; which is set to go head-to-head against Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, among others &#8212; will debut with 10,000 hours of library programming across the company&#8217;s various properties, including HBO, Warner Bros., TBS, Cartoon Network and CNN.</p><p>The $15-per-month HBO Max, <strong>is one of the most expensive services on the market</strong>. In addition the entire catalog of HBO shows, the service will have movies and TV shows from the Warner Bros. library and a handful of new original series.</p><p>HBO began running social media ads on Tuesday morning announcing the date of the service&#8217;s launch.HBO Max will be the third major streaming service to launch during the coronavirus pandemic, behind <strong>Quibi, which launched on April 6</strong> and <strong>NBCUniversal&#8217;s Peacock on April 15</strong>.</p><p>HBO Max was hoping to debut a much-buzzed-about <strong>reunion special featuring the cast of &#8220;Friends,&#8221;</strong> but the coronavirus shutdown prevented the special from being filmed in time for the launch.</p><p>Instead, WarnerMedia will bring all 236 episodes of &#8220;Friends,&#8221; in addition to a handful of originals, including scripted comedy &#8220;Love Life&#8221; starring Anna Kendrick, the documentary &#8220;On the Record,&#8221; ballroom dance competition series &#8220;Legendary&#8221; and Sesame Workshop&#8217;s late-night series &#8220;The Not Too Late Show with Elmo.&#8221;</p>]]></content:encoded>
