WarnerMedia’s pricey new streaming service HBO Max is set to debut on May 27, the company said Tuesday.

The AT&T-owned media giant’s video-streaming platform — which is set to go head-to-head against Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, among others — will debut with 10,000 hours of library programming across the company’s various properties, including HBO, Warner Bros., TBS, Cartoon Network and CNN.

The $15-per-month HBO Max, is one of the most expensive services on the market. In addition the entire catalog of HBO shows, the service will have movies and TV shows from the Warner Bros. library and a handful of new original series.

HBO began running social media ads on Tuesday morning announcing the date of the service’s launch.HBO Max will be the third major streaming service to launch during the coronavirus pandemic, behind Quibi, which launched on April 6 and NBCUniversal’s Peacock on April 15.

HBO Max was hoping to debut a much-buzzed-about reunion special featuring the cast of “Friends,” but the coronavirus shutdown prevented the special from being filmed in time for the launch.

Instead, WarnerMedia will bring all 236 episodes of “Friends,” in addition to a handful of originals, including scripted comedy “Love Life” starring Anna Kendrick, the documentary “On the Record,” ballroom dance competition series “Legendary” and Sesame Workshop’s late-night series “The Not Too Late Show with Elmo.”
