        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Miley Cyrus is coming in like a wrecking ball again as a late addition to the performers for the 2020 MTV VMAs.</p><p>Cyrus, whose video for &#8220;Mother&#8217;s Daughter&#8221; is up for best art direction and best editing awards, will perform her new <strong>single, &#8220;Midnight Sky,&#8221;</strong> during the show on Aug. 30, <strong>it was announced Monday</strong>.</p><p>MTV&#8217;s Video Music Awards ceremony, <strong>hosted by Keke Palmer</strong>, will also include <strong>performances by Lady Gaga</strong>, The Weeknd, BTS, Doja Cat, J Balvin, Maluma and Roddy Ricch.</p><p>At 2019&#8217;s VMAs, the now-27-year-old Cyrus <strong>sang her breakup ballad &#8220;Slide Away</strong>,&#8221; just days after splitting from longtime squeeze Liam Hemsworth, 30, whom Cyrus <strong>recently said</strong> was the first &#8220;dude&#8221; she went &#8220;all the way with&#8221; when she was 16.</p><figure id="attachment_16148523"  class="wp-caption aligncenter"><strong><noscript><img data- data-src="/uploads/2020/08/miley-cyrus-2020-vmas-1-copy.jpg" class="lazyload" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==" /><noscript><img  data-src="/uploads/2020/08/miley-cyrus-2020-vmas-1-copy.jpg" /></noscript></noscript><img class="lazyload" src='data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=%22http://www.w3.org/2000/svg%22%20viewBox=%220%200%20210%20140%22%3E%3C/svg%3E' data- data-src="/uploads/2020/08/miley-cyrus-2020-vmas-1-copy.jpg" /></strong><figcaption class="wp-caption-text"><span>Miley Cyrus</span><span class="credit">Getty Images</span></figcaption></figure><p>Cyrus, who hosted the show in 2015, is often remembered for her <strong>shocking, twerk-filled routine</strong> with Robin Thicke at the 2013 VMAs.</p><p>The VMAs, originally set to take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, will instead be more coronavirus-conscious and socially distant with <strong> outdoor performances across New York City.</strong></p><p>“The VMAs will highlight the boroughs in an exciting show and return to Barclays Center in 2021,&#8221; representatives for MTV and Barclays Center said in a recent statement. &#8220;MTV will continue to work closely with the Department of Health, state and local officials, the medical community and key stakeholders to ensure the safety of all involved.”</p><p>The <strong>top nominees this year include</strong> Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, with nine each, followed closely by Billie Eilish and The Weeknd, with six nominations each.</p>]]></content:encoded>
