Vanessa Hudgens was accused of making insensitive comments about the deadly coronavirus outbreak sweeping the world.

“Um, yeah, ’til July sounds like a bunch of bulls–t,” she said of the potential quarantine timeline for the United States on Instagram. “I’m sorry, but like, it’s a virus, I get it, like, I respect it, but at the same time I’m like, even if everybody gets it, like yeah, people are going to die, which is terrible but like, inevitable?”

She then seemed to backtrack a bit, telling her 18.4 million followers, “I don’t know. Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this right now.”

Later in the tutorial, she said, “I wish I brought my drink up,” before reaching for a portable mug and drinking out of it while singing the lyrics, “Sipping on gin and juice.”

Twitter users soon called out the 31-year-old “High School Musical” actress for her comments.

“People do die, but wouldn’t you rather do your part than to risk being a factor in another’s misfortune?” said one user.

“Her manager must be fuming right now,” said another.

“Ignore her, she’s high,” added one more.

Others jumped to the actress’ defense, claiming that her comments weren’t inaccurate.

“She didn’t lie tho y’all wanna protect old people we get it but these 70-80-90 year olds have already lived a long life,” one person commented.

“She wrong though?” questioned another.

Hudgens took to social media after receiving backlash, saying that her comments were taken out of context.

“Hey guys, yesterday I did an Instagram Live and I realized today that some of my comments are being taken out of context,” she said on her Instagram story on Tuesday. “It’s a crazy time. It’s a crazy, crazy time, and I’m at home and in lockdown and that’s what I hope you guys are doing too. In full quarantine and staying safe and sane.”

She added, “I don’t take this situation lightly by any means. I am home, so stay inside y’all.”

Her rep did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
