After Brady confirmed his Patriots expiration date Wednesday during a two-hour interview with Howard Stern, Michaels told Mike Tirico on NBC Sports’ “Lunch Talk Live” that he recalled a November conversation with the 42-year-old quarterback expressing his dissatisfaction.

“We were talking to Brady, and Brady said to us, ‘I’m the most unhappy 8-0 quarterback in football,’” Michaels said Wednesday of Brady, whose former team fell to 8-1 after losing to the Baltimore Ravens 37-20 in that hyped primetime contest. Michaels was on the call for the game; the NBC broadcasters talk with the top players and coaches for each team in preparation for games.

While Michaels joked he currently owes a colleague $86,000 for betting against Brady leaving New England, he understands the six-time Super Bowl champ’s decision to move on.

“Tom needed a little fresh air and he’s going to get it on the Gulf Coast,” Michaels said.

Brady signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last month worth at least $50 million.

Brady said Wednesday he “probably knew” ahead of the 2019 season that he would be leaving the Patriots.

“I knew it was just our time, our time was coming to an end,” he said.
