A 2009 tweet from Ellen DeGeneres in which she said she made an employee cry resurfaced on Tuesday, but it’s not what it seems.

“I made one of my employees cry like a baby on today’s show,” she wrote on June 5, 2009. “Honestly, it felt good.”

A source told Page Six that the tweet — which comes amid growing allegations of toxicity at the talk show — was actually made in reference to DeGeneres’ employee Jeannie Klisiewicz, whom the host surprised with a cruise on air.

DeGeneres had hired Klisiewicz in 2008 after she wrote to the show wanting a job. After a year of work, we’re told, DeGeneres wanted to “do something special for her” because of her positive attitude and because she had entered every contest and never won.

The emotional segment was added to EllenTube three years ago.

The video comes amid 62-year-old DeGeneres’ attempt to apologize for her alleged toxic behavior behind the scenes of her eponymous talk show.

On a Zoom call Monday, DeGeneres addressed her employees and said she had no clue where the rumored no-eye-contact rule began and that she was going to work to interact more with her staff.

She also announced the ouster of three top producers from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”: executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman.

A rep for DeGeneres didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.
