        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Disney has made history with its first bisexual lead character in a kids&#8217; show, according to reports.</p><p>Luz Noceda, the 14-year-old lead in the Disney Channel&#8217;s animated series “The Owl House,” has previously shown interest in boys &#8212; but has pursued a recurring female character, Amity, in the two most recent episodes, <strong>Variety reported</strong>.</p><p>While Disney has shown LGBTQ characters before, it is the first of its kids&#8217; shows with a lead who is bisexual, the trade mag said of the show rated for children aged 7 and above.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m bi! I want to write a bi character, dammit!&#8221; series <a href="https://twitter.com/DanaTerrace/status/1292321440029478917">creator Dana Terrace has tweeted</a>, claiming that unidentified Disney higher-ups initially forbid her from &#8220;any form of bi or gay relationship on the Channel.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;Luckily my stubbornness paid off and now I am VERY supported by current Disney leadership,&#8221; she said, also praising the &#8220;amazingness&#8221; the show&#8217;s crew for making &#8220;badass&#8221; episodes.</p><p>&#8220;Representation matters!&#8221; Terrace tweeted &#8212; telling followers to &#8220;be gay do witchcraft.&#8221;</p><p>In the show, Luz &#8212; voiced by Sarah-Nicole Robles &#8212; is a regular teenager who accidentally stumbles upon a portal to a magical new world where she befriends a rebellious witch, Eda, and an adorably tiny warrior, King.</p><figure id="attachment_16144111"  class="wp-caption aligncenter"><strong><noscript><img data- data-src="/uploads/2020/08/owl-house.jpg" class="lazyload" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==" /><noscript><img  data-src="/uploads/2020/08/owl-house.jpg" /></noscript></noscript><img class="lazyload" src='data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=%22http://www.w3.org/2000/svg%22%20viewBox=%220%200%20210%20140%22%3E%3C/svg%3E' data- data-src="/uploads/2020/08/owl-house.jpg" /></strong><figcaption class="wp-caption-text"><span>Luz Noceda has pursued a recurring female character, Amity, in the two most recent episodes of &#8216;The Owl House&#8217;</span><span class="credit">Disney</span></figcaption></figure><p>Her interest in Amity developed over the last two episodes, with the pair sharing a dance together after she asks her to &#8220;grom,&#8221; their world’s version of prom, according to Variety.</p><p>GLAAD <a href="https://twitter.com/glaad/status/1292565760250908673" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">said it was &#8220;excited&#8221;</a> about the &#8220;LGBTQ-inclusive storytelling&#8221; which it said portrayed &#8220;an inclusive, fair, accurate, and age-appropriate world through the representation of its characters.&#8221;</p><p>Terrace said she had always been &#8220;very open about my intention to put queer kids in the main cast.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a horrible liar so sneaking it in would&#8217;ve been hard haha,&#8221; the creator tweeted.</p><p>“Andi Mack” became the first show on Disney Channel to have a gay character, while the Pixar short film “Out” featured a gay main character in its Disney Plus launch, Variety noted.</p>]]></content:encoded>
