The new normal at NBA practice facilities began Friday, featuring temperature checks at the door, latex gloves and an outfit in a bag.

The Cavaliers were among the first teams to open back up for voluntary workouts after the league was suspended March 11 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Four players — Kevin Love, Larry Nance Jr., Cedi Osman and Ante Zizic — went to the facility, where they were met with plenty of new precautions as they took the first step back after nearly two months off.

“I feel like anybody who needs an escape or in everyday life is looking for any type of normalcy back doing something they love,” Love told ESPN. “For me, I played 25-ish years of organized basketball and this is the longest I’ve ever gone without touching [a basketball]. And it’s something I really, really enjoy doing.

“So for me, it definitely was a big dopamine hit, and it just felt great to get in there and sweat outside of doing my workouts at home or getting on a treadmill. Going out there and having some sense of normalcy and getting on the court and actually shooting was pretty uplifting.”

The Portland Trail Blazers also reopened their facility, as states all over country are in the process of loosening social distancing restrictions. But it remains unclear when — and how — the NBA and other professional sports leagues will resume games.

Kevin Love in early March, before the NBA shut down due to coronavirus.NBAE via Getty Images

Before Love could get into Cleveland Clinic Courts, he had to go through a screening, in which he was asked questions and his temperature was taken and logged, according to the report. If he had a fever, he would not have been allowed in.

“How we’re feeling, if anybody has been sick in the house, if we’ve been sick, if we’ve basically adhered to all the guidelines that are put in place, not only by the NBA but state to state,” Love said of the screening questions.

After he got into the facility, Love was given a bag of practice gear to change into. Each player had two basketballs and his own hoop to shoot on, with a designated assistant coach — decked out in a mask and latex gloves — on each half court to rebound and pass the ball to the player.

Players also each had a table nearby with disinfectants, snacks, towels and water.

“It’s just going to change the way — at least for the foreseeable future — of not only how we interact but how we live in our daily lives. So for me, was it weird? Yeah,” Love said. “I had [Cavs assistant coach] Dan Geriot at my basket and having him rebound and pass me the ball with a mask and gloves on. It’s just odd. It’s just weird.”
