Steve Cohen’s first photo as Mets owner could be an encouraging one.

The hedge fund billionaire’s wife, Alex, shared a photo to Twitter of her and Cohen after he officially bought the Mets from the Wilpons for $2.4 billion on Friday. The pictured showed the couple at home, Cohen with his legs crossed sporting a Mets hat and Alex next to him wearing a Mets-themed shirt from NineteenEightySixed that read “You Gotta Believe in Uncle Steve” with a heart for the “v” in Steve.

“Celebrating together tonight – thank you all for your notes, we are beyond excited,” Alex wrote along with the photo.

The Mets are counting on the lifelong fan’s deep pockets — Cohen is worth more than $14 billion — to help turn the franchise around and deliver their first World Series title since 1986. While his wife thanked the Staten Island-based clothing line for the shirt, Mets fans only can hope Cohen embraces the idea of being the fan base’s rich uncle.
