        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>According to a Maui County press release, cops responded to the beach area of Pia Bay on the island's north shore around 4:09 p.m. local time.<br /><br />When cops arrived on the scene, they discovered that bystanders had already pulled the 51-year-old to shore and were treating her wounds until medical and fire services arrived.<br /><br />Before the event, the victim was apparently observed swimming and possibly snorkeling in murky water around 100 yards from shore.<br /><br />In critical condition, she was rushed to Maui Memorial Medical Center.<br /><br />The bite inquiry is still ongoing.<br /><br />The Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement of the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) also reacted, according to Maui Now.</p>

<p>Following the event, Maui County closed three north-shore beaches until Sunday, and staff from the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources and Maui Ocean Safety officials posted shark warning signs on either side of Pia Bay.</p>
