        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s typically sunny days on &#8220;Sesame Street,&#8221; but the long-running PBS program will take on a serious theme this Saturday.</p><p>&#8220;Sesame Street&#8221; and CNN will host a 60-minute town hall special for children and families at 10 a.m. to discuss racism.</p><p>Called &#8220;Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism,&#8221; and airing in response to the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd <strong>at the hands of police</strong> and the subsequent protests, the show aims to talk to children about prejudice and demonstrations — <strong>and teach lessons</strong> about embracing diversity and being more empathetic toward others.</p><p>The special will feature Big Bird and CNN&#8217;s Van Jones and Erica Hill as moderators. &#8220;Sesame Street&#8221; characters including Elmo, Abby Cadabby and Rosita will join them to answer families&#8217; submitted questions.</p><figure id="attachment_15777727"  class="wp-caption alignleft"><strong><noscript><img data- data-src="/uploads/2020/06/sesame-cnn-racism-01.jpg" class="lazyload" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==" /><noscript><img  data-src="/uploads/2020/06/sesame-cnn-racism-01.jpg" /></noscript></noscript><img class="lazyload" src='data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=%22http://www.w3.org/2000/svg%22%20viewBox=%220%200%20210%20140%22%3E%3C/svg%3E' data- data-src="/uploads/2020/06/sesame-cnn-racism-01.jpg" /></strong><figcaption class="wp-caption-text"><span class="credit">CNN</span></figcaption></figure><p>&#8220;Sesame Street&#8221; is no stranger to addressing current events and promoting inclusion. Sesame Workshop, the educational non-profit behind &#8220;Sesame Street,&#8221; launched several animated public-service spots in March <strong>to keep children safe</strong> at the outset of America&#8217;s coronavirus outbreak.</p><p>In 2019, <strong>they introduced a new character</strong>, Karli, described as a &#8220;young Muppet in foster care.&#8221; In 2017, a character with autism named Julia premiered on the show.</p><p>The town hall special will air on CNN, CNN International and the Spanish-language CNN en Español. It will also appear live on the CNN.com homepage and CNN mobile apps for those without a cable subscription.</p>]]></content:encoded>
