Savannah Chrisley and her fiancé, Nic Kerdiles, needed some more time before tying the knot.

On Thursday’s episode of the “Chrisley Confessions” podcast, Savannah, 22, opened up to her father, “Chrisley Knows Best” star Todd Chrisley, about the decision to postpone her wedding, saying she and Kerdelis made it together.

“We both realized that things moved way too fast and we needed to go back to dating,” she said.

Kerdiles, 26, proposed to Savannah in December of 2018 after more than a year of dating. But last October Savannah told told E! News the couple would be “taking some steps back” in their relationship.

The wedding was to have taken place on May 9, Todd’s birthday. A wedding planner and three possible venues had already been found — but it likely would have been postponed anyway because of the coronavirus pandemic, she said.

On the new podcast, Savannah elaborated on the situation by saying, “I just knew we had to work on things on a different level. We had to dig deeper and it’s hard. It’s 2020 and you know what, it’s OK not to follow the guidelines and the whole timeframe that everyone follows.”

The reality star recounted some advice a friend had given to her about marriage.

“She said, ‘When you get married, the good things in your relationship become great and the bad things in your relationship become worse.’ And I truly sat on that and I thought about it and there was just so much that Nic and I needed to work through,” Savannah said. “And there was a lot of pressure because we got engaged, it was public and everyone expected a wedding.”

Savannah also said her 51-year-old father reacted like a manager to the news at first, but quickly went into “dad mode.”

“That made me feel good that he supported my decision. It’s been a whirlwind of things and we’re still working on things,” she said. “We’re both in therapy. We’re doing what we know we need to do.”
