The beloved TV host died from myocardial infarction due to coronary artery disease and hypertension, a spokesperson for the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Farmington, Conn., confirmed to Page Six on Wednesday. Philbin died on Friday, July 24, at age 88.

The family of the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” host issued a statement mourning his death after he passed away.

“We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday,” his family wrote.

His former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford also opened up about the last time she saw her good friend.

“We just had the best time,” she said of her lunch with Philbin and his wife, Joy. “I just thought to myself, ‘Lord, is that the last time I’m going to see my friend?’ Cause he was failing, I could tell.”

Philbin’s other longtime on-screen partner Kelly Ripa also paid tribute to the game show legend.

“As people get older, you always know that certain things are inevitable, and passing away is one of those things, but Regis is one of the people that we all believed, I think, would somehow figure out a way around the inevitable,” an emotional Ripa, who worked alongside Philbin for 11 years, said on “Live!”
