        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The 2020 college football season is going up in flames.</p><p>The Pac-12 announced it is canceling its fall football season, becoming the second Power 5 conference to take the measure as a safety precaution amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Big Ten announced earlier Tuesday <strong>it was canceling its 2020 football season</strong>.</p><p>“The health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes and all those connected to Pac-12 sports has been our number one priority since the start of this current crisis,” Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement. “Our student-athletes, fans, staff and all those who love college sports would like to have seen the season played this calendar year as originally planned, and we know how disappointing this is.”</p><p>The Pac-12 is postponing all sports competitions for the rest of the calendar year, which would impact non-conference basketball games.</p><p>Commissioners from the Power 5 conferences &#8212; which also includes the SEC, ACC and Big 12 &#8212; met Sunday to discuss whether college football should be played this fall.</p><p>Reports have indicated myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle being linked to COVID-19, <strong>is a factor in the conferences&#8217; concern</strong>. ESPN reported at least five Big Ten athletes have been diagnosed with myocarditis.</p>]]></content:encoded>
