By God, Jordan Vogt-Roberts did it. After a fan-casting movement on social media wanted Oscar Isaac for the role of Solid Snake for his long-in-development Metal Gear Solid movie, the filmmaker has officially landed the Star Wars actor for the lead role, EW has learned.

During a press junket interview for Triple Frontier in March 2019, Isaac told IGN "I'm throwing my hat in for that one" in reference to Metal Gear Solid, which is an adaptation of the popular video game series from Hideo Kojima, published by Konami. Hearing of this as word continued to spread online, Vogt-Roberts went on Twitter to quell the fan storms. "The full process required to cast an icon hasn’t even started," he tweeted, while mentioning, "The ball's in Oscar's court."

Now, it's official. Isaac is attached to star in the film from Sony Pictures, which also finished filming this year on another long-awaited videogame adaptation, Uncharted. Deadline was the first to report the news.

Derek Connolly wrote the script for Metal Gear Solid, which is produced by Avi Arad and executive produced by Peter Kang. The first game launched on PlayStation in 1987 and followed Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from a renegade special forces unit known as Foxhound.

Add this to Isaac's still-growing list of roles across movies and TV. As of now, those include HBO's Scenes From a Marriage with Jessica Chastain, Marvel's Moon Knight series on Disney+, the adaptation of the Brian K. Vaughn comic Ex Machina, and a movie about the making of The Godfather. We're also still owed his "space daddy" performance in Denis Villeneuve's Dune, rescheduled for 2021.
