It may be a Sisyphean task, but the Browns are trying to squash Odell Beckham Jr. trade rumors once more.

The wide receiver’s name is a staple of the rumor mill and has been again this offseason in multiple reports, even as the team continues to deny they have had any discussions about moving him.

“That’s the truth,” a Browns source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The OBJ rumor mill most recently churned Saturday, when Bleacher Report reported that three sources “believe it’s only a matter of time before Beckham is traded from the Browns.” It’s not because of an attitude problem, according to the report, but instead because of a potentially poor fit with Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Odell BeckhamDiamond Images/Getty Images

In their first season together last year, Mayfield targeted Beckham 133 times and connected for 74 receptions, 1,035 yards and four touchdowns. Overall, Mayfield completed 59.4 percent of his passes as a Browns season that began with huge expectations finished with a 6-10 record and the firing of first-year coach Freddie Kitchens.

Beckham, whom the Giants traded to Cleveland less than a year after signing him to a five-year, $95 million extension, surfaced in another trade rumor recently when WFAN’s Marc Malusis reported Wednesday that the Browns were in discussions with the Vikings on a trade for the wide receiver.

Like every other report that has come up since Beckham landed in Cleveland, the Browns tried to shut that one down, too.

“It’s frustrating, obviously,” Browns chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta told reporters on a conference call Thursday. “It’s pretty clear what we’re trying to build. The idea that we’d take away from that core doesn’t make sense and is not something we’re exploring.”
