Nick Cordero‘s wife, Amanda Kloots, and the couple’s 10-month-old son, Elvis Cordero, are staying with Zach Braff — Cordero’s best friend — as the Broadway star recovers from the coronavirus.

Braff, 45, told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday that Cordero, 41, Kloots, 39, and their baby had been living at his guest house in Los Angeles for the past seven months — prior to the pandemic’s outbreak — while they were house hunting in California.

According to the former “Scrubs” star, Cordero contracted COVID-19 on a trip back to New York to pack up his belongings. By early April, he was admitted to the intensive care unit of Cedars Sinai Hospital.

“He’s on a ventilator, he’s lost his leg due to complications, and every day we don’t know what will happen,” Braff said. “So, his wife and baby are living in my guest house and thank God they’ve been joined by her amazing brother and sister who are taking care of her and helping her with the baby. And we help them in any way we can, too.”

The actor said the group practices safe social distancing guidelines but caters to Kloots with wine, flowers and food while her husband remains in the hospital.

“She’s amazing,” Braff said of Kloots. “She’s a motivational trainer, so she’s gone into full-on bad-ass crisis dealing mode. If you look at her Instagram, she tells stories about him and she motivates other people — she’s literally trying to motivate other people.”

Nick Cordero and Zach BraffFilmMagic

On April 24, Kloots said Cordero tested negative twice for COVID-19 and the coronavirus appeared to be “out of his system.”

However, he is not completely out of the woods. On Thursday, Kloots shared that her husband’s lungs are “severely damaged” and look like those of a smoker of 50 years.

“I’m not giving up hope,” she said. “Obviously, it was super scary news to hear.”

Braff said that Kloots plays Cordero’s song, “Live Your Life,” in tribute to her husband every day at 3 p.m.

“It’s all very, very moving,” he said. “And my neighborhood has rallied around her as well. There’s just a non-stop stream of people dropping things off. And he was in ‘Rock of Ages,’ the show that they were doing out here, and his ‘Rock of Ages’ cast literally takes turns taking the baby on stroller walks.”

Braff said that people are “lucky enough to not have this land in their backyard.”

He added, “I think a lot of people are still under the impression that this is only really dire for seniors, but I’m here to tell you that a very, very healthy 41-year-old friend of mine is fighting for his life.”
