“Getting catfished was sort of the best thing that ever happened to me,” Schulman, 35, recently told Page Six.

Schulman famously fell in love via Facebook and documented it in his 2010 film “Catfish.”

“A lot of people haven’t seen that or don’t even realize that the reason I’m hosting the show is because I myself got catfished in sort of a very epic way back in 2008,” he explained. “I still sometimes think about it. I’m just flabbergasted that it happened, that she did it and that was so, so long ago.”

Schulman, now a father to Cleo, 3, and Beau, 1, with wife Laura Perlongo, is preparing for the day his children want to go online.

“It’s going to be up to my kids to figure out whether or not they want to have an internet relationship or not. And I’ll certainly sit them down and show them the documentary, but I think you’ve got to make your own decisions and make your own mistakes,” he explained.

Crawford, 27, elaborated: “There’s a lot of great opportunities on the internet, but there’s also some scary people out there that you have to watch out for. And you just never want to put yourself in any kind of compromising situation when you’re out there trying to get a job or, you know, start a career.”

Still, she thought she was being catfished when she was approached to join the show last year.

“When I found out about hosting the first episode that I ever guest hosted, I did think that I was getting catfished,” she laughed. “So I am thrilled, Nev, that you’re real and this was real and that we’re still here. I definitely thought it was fake.”

“Catfish” returns to MTV on Aug. 5 at 8 p.m.
